“A “sauna boat” from Sweden has moored in London and is claimed to be the first of its kind in the whole of the UK.
There’s a lot of things you can do on boats these days. From luxury cruises to ABBA parties to a Horrible Histories tour on the Thames, the options are endless, but a new boating activity that claims to be the first of its kind in the UK is docking in London to blow off steam.
A ‘sauna boat’ from Sweden has arrived in Canary Wharf today and will bring a floating version of the health benefits of sauna and cold water immersion to the city.
On April 26, just in time for World Sauna Day, a sauna on water will open its doors to customers in London. It will be a 15-person Scandinavian wood-fired sauna where stress-weary city dwellers can go for a full-on relaxation.
Skuna Boats, who are behind this sauna boat, hope to launch it nationwide and lure people in with a 70-90°C sauna before dipping into a 6°C rooftop pool. There will also be DJs to make the experience more enjoyable and turn it into a more social setting with views of the city around you.
Speaking about the news, Skuna Boats founder Tommo Thompson said: “We hope that the UK’s first ever sauna boat will attract national attention! Our aim is not only to bring the powerful health and wellness benefits of saunas and cold plunges to London, but also to embrace the Scandinavian roots of sauna boating, where the social aspect plays a central role.
Expect an incredible, authentic Scandinavian sauna experience, complete with DJ-selected music, all set against the backdrop of views of the iconic and historic Canary Wharf! This is the first of many sauna boats for the UK as we plan to sail them on waters across the UK.”
London residents will be able to use the floating sauna starting April 26, World Sauna Day.
