The bay leaf is a spice that needs no introduction. But did you know you can use them for more than just your favorite dishes? Use your grandmother’s trick and put them in the washing machine. This trick will also come in handy before Easter.
A bay leaf is not just a spice.
Laurel leaf is one of those spices that we can’t imagine cooking without.
However, few people know that bay leaf is not only a spice, but also a medicine, as well as an indispensable tool for maintaining cleanliness in the house. They will be perfect before Easter, when we will clean the whole apartment. This trick was once used by our grandmothers.
Laurel leaf will help with spring cleaning
In the spring, before holidays and big important events, we usually plan a general cleaning of the house. We wash windows, curtains, drapes and tablecloths that will decorate our tables. This is where the bay leaf comes in handy.
All you need to do is put 5 bay leaves in a linen bag, then put it in the washing machine along with your curtains, drapes or tablecloths and set the wash cycle. The spice has bleaching properties. After the washing cycle is completed, the materials will become snow-white.
In the case of very gray fabrics, it is worth preparing a decoction: pour a handful of bay leaves with 1 liter of water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 15 minutes. Put the gray curtain in a bowl. Fill with cold water and add the prepared broth, then soak for a few hours. After this time, set the washing program.
Bleaching with bay leaf can also be used for other fabrics such as towels, blouses, t-shirts or shirts. They are absolutely safe and will not damage our clothes, but only restore their beautiful white color.
Infusion of bay leaf – a powerful medicine
Put 5 bay leaves in a cup and pour boiling water over them. Cover with a plate and let infuse for 5 minutes. Drink the infusion in small sips throughout the day. This is very important, as the tea has a very strong effect.
A bay leaf infusion will help with many ailments, including digestive problems and high blood sugar. It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It also soothes persistent coughs and makes it easier to breathe when you have a cold or flu.
In addition, this spice is a source of potassium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium. However, remember that due to the strong effects of the infusion, the treatment cannot last longer than 3 days.
